On the road again...

I feel like I haven't even been home that long and I'm already going on another trip! But hey, I can't really complain! Everyone I tell either thinks I'm crazy or they are insanely jealous that I get to go on vacation whenever I want, but I'm ok with that. I am packing up to go on a cruise with a few of my girls, and I am seriously excited. I am not excited about packing (again!) and getting some stuff done before I leave. I also have been running...ok well walking/jogging. I seriously need to get some motivation in that area. On a better note though, I have started applying for grad school, and I have two letters of recommendation ready to go! Now, I just have to get one more and sign up for the dang GMAT prep course...seriously, I am dreading that so much.

I leave in a day!! Yay! Hopefully I will take lots of pictures, but there is no guarantee that my eyes will be open for all of them. I honestly have such a problem with that, and I have no idea why! I think it's a condition that has developed in the past few years, because I never used to have that problem. "Here's hopin' I can keep my eyes open!" ;)

Back to Reality

Back from Costa Rica and I must say...it was pretty awesome. I'm really glad I got the opportunity to go, but now I'm back home. We took a bus into San Jose and stayed Monday night in the city, then got up on Tuesday and went to the airport to catch our flight. We transferred through Ft. Lauderdale, and had layover of 2 1/2 hours. It wasn't too bad though, because we honestly thought we would be stuck there alot longer due to all the crazy flooding in Georgia. Seriously, it was bizarre. We even saw news coverage of the flooding in our area on Spanish news!! We completely missed all of it, because since I have been back it has been beautiful and sunny!

Continuing in my traveling fashion, I have already booked my next trip...and I even more excited about this one! I am going on a cruise to the Bahamas with 3 of my lovely friends. I have been to the Bahamas before, but I know that I can't possibly not have fun with these girls! Two things I have yet to start on though, are running and graduate school applications! I had to completely re-write my resume, since the only place I had it was on my computer that was stolen last Christmas. So I have that done, so next step is to send to a few people and get some recommendation letters, and also at least start on the application itself, which shouldn't be any problem. I am applying to: Kennesaw (as a last resort honestly), UGA, Ga Tech, and Ga State. I am also thinking that I might apply to one of those schools for a different graduate degree, not an MBA, because I might have a better chance of getting in since MBA programs are so hard to get into, not to mention in high demand because of the economy.

Even though I'm not in school or working, I still feel like I am super busy! I can't believe that Sept. has already almost come and gone, and October is looking pretty full!

-Cruise-Oct. 2-5

-Kings Of Leon-Oct. 9-so excited!!

-Dad's Birthday-Oct. 12

-Wedding shower for my friend Katie-Oct. 17

-And somewhere in there I want to go camping for the weekend with A, but we both have to work around our schedules. AND, of course I can't forget about Halloween!! Everyone who knows me knows how much I love Halloween-and dressing up!

I also need to start running!!! I am starting today, I swear! Now that I am back and caught up from my trip-it is time!

Pura Vida!

HI from Costa Rica!!!!
I didn't think I would get a chance to blog while I was here, but my friend has her Mac, and we have free wi-fi at the place we are staying at right now. So far, the trip has gone really well!! We flew in on Saturday, and our flight was at 7am-needless to say, we were up super early to get to the airport. And my wonderful mommy, volunteered to take us to the airport that early, even though she never gets to sleep in! She is pretty much awesome. We changed planes in Ft. Lauderdale, then on to San Jose. When we left the airport, we were immediately bombarded by about 10 taxi drivers. It felt a little sketchy, until one guy came up to us and was really nice, spoke english pretty well, and was not pushy like all the other guys. We wanted to go to Jaco (pronounced Haco, like "taco"), which is a small beach town along the Pacific coast. He took us there for $35 each-seriously, it was a 2 1/2 hour drive too, so we got a pretty good deal. I seriously think that he was sent to us, because we started talking to him, and he had been to Atlanta! He turned out to be really cool! Not only did he drive us there, but took us to this local restaurant along the way on the top of a mountain, which was open so that the fog could blow in and cool you down. So cool! He also told us about a bridge that had a ton of crocodiles and he even stopped and showed us! It definitely started our trip off right.

In Jaco, we stayed at a cute little inn run by a Dutch couple, and it was pretty nice-had a kitchenette in the rooms and a nice pool. We stayed three nights and had a bus booked to take us to Arenal, which the area with an active volcano. We got up early, packed our stuff, and had breakfast at the hotel. Our bus was not supposed to be there until 9:05, but at 8:30, with breakfast on the way, someone comes up and says "Are you taking the Gray line bus? Because they are here." We looked at each other and were like "oh Crap!". We bolted back to our room without eating to get out stuff, and by the time we got back, the nice ladies working there had boxed up our breakfast so that we could eat it on the bus!! It was so nice!! We honestly didn't think we were going to get to eat!

In La Fortuna (the actual town that surrounds the Arenal Volcano), we stayed at a really nice hostel, that was more like a hotel than a hostel. It had air-conditioning, which is something that you come to greatly appreciate in ridiculously humid Costa Rica, which makes Georgia feel like Alaska. They also had a sweet pool with a swim up bar. ; ) The first night we did a tour which was a drive up to a scenic area by the volcano, with a hike through the jungle, then they drove us around the other side of the volcano to see the lava at night. Arenal is by all means an active volcano-smoke can be seen everyday coming out of the top crater, and lava flows fairly regularly down one side. I got some really good pictures of the lava too. Then they took us the hot springs for dinner and some relaxing in the naturally hot mineral water. Soooo goooood.
By far the best thing at the hostel was the people. There are people from all over and it is so great to be able to talk with them. After we did the zip line through the rainforest-another really amazing experience-we hung out with 4 swedish guys and a french dude, and went to La Fortuna waterfall. We hiked back down and went to a local waterfall spot as well.

That brings me to today. We are sitting at the hostel right now, waiting for our bus to take us to Brasilito, which is where our friend Elizabeth is student teaching. We are going to hang out with her for the weekend, then head back to San Jose to catch our plane home!!

Pura Vida! (which the locals say, it means "life is good" )

Getting ready for Costa

I just got done packing (for the most part), because I leave for Costa Rica TOMORROW!! It has certainly been a busy week leading up to it though. I have been trying to finish stuff up for work, and get everything ready for my trip. Not to mention now that I don't have set time to get up, I get to lay in bed and sleep in as long as I want-not gonna lie, it's pretty nice!

Since I have been running around, I haven't gotten a chance to actually run...as in starting training. It's been kinda a slow week as far as that goes. I think that it might be a good thing though, since I would have run for a week, then left for Costa Rica for 10 days, so there wasn't much point to it. I do plan on starting when I get back though for sure.

I don't know why, but I am a little nervous to go to Costa Rica. I don't know if it's because almost every person I talk to seems to think I am going to get pick pocketed, or just because I have not travelled in a bit. Either way, I'm sure it will go away as soon as I get on the plane. I love travelling-I went to England for 2 weeks on a group trip when I was 12 and I didn't even call me parents I had such a good time. They were pissed about that for sure, but that's another story. ; )

I also am working on a few other things as well, namely planning a weekend cruise with a few of my lovely friends, and getting some recommendation letters ready to go for grad applications. I also have a camping trip tentatively scheduled for October with Adam and Koda. Now that should be interesting.

I should be posting a little from Costa Rica, so look out for some pics as well!

Oh, and one more thing: I have this weird ritual that I do before I leave for a trip or get on an airplane-I have to sing the "Leavin" song.

"I'm leav-in, on a jet plane, don't know when I'll be back again! Leavin, on a jet plane...."

Truth

I consider myself a pretty simple person. True, I am female, and most people would argue that would prevent me from being simple. But really, most things are pretty black and white. I want what everyone wants-to be treated as an adult, with respect, and I like it when people are straight with me. One things that bothers me above the rest is not being truthful with someone. Regardless of how you feel about that person, lying is something no one deserves. I honestly just cannot fathom how people, especially people who care about and love eath other, can lie to someone else. It boggles my mind. Really. And that includes keeping things from people. Just because you don't tell someone something on purpose to keep it from them doesn't mean it is not still a form of lying. If you do something that you know the other person would be upset, mad, saddened at, etc. and you choose to keep it from them, it is no better.

It's ironic when someone you see as being strong, is just so weak emotionally. Someone who you think would be able to tell the truth and deal with the consequences, would rather cowar away from it! Or maybe they are just too oblivious to see how something could impact someone other than themselves. Either way, it's sad, because most people react worse to being lied to, rather than what was lied about. If people just stopped lying to each other, trust wouldn't be such an issue for so many people. Food for thought: If you love someone, and you lie to them, is that not one of the worst forms of disrespect and the easiest way to tear people apart? Yet it is one of the easist things for people to do.

On a lighter note, I start my running tomorrow! I am excited to start, even though my trip to Costa Rica will temporarily disrupt that. I also met with my friend today who is going to Costa Rica with me to discuss some things we will be doing there. Sounds like it will be a fun trip: Organic farm, hiking, a volcano, zip line, BEACHES!!!

I am so ready.

You know you are gettin older when...

You know you are getting older when...
They stop carding you for your ID, even though I look like I am 18 years old.

You know you are getting older when...
You no longer have health insurance because you are graduated and/or too old to be on your parents anymore.

You know you are getting older when...
Before you start flirting with a guy, you covertly check his left hand to see if there is a wedding band on it. Unfortunately, being older means more people have on rings...FML

You know you are getting older when...
The celebrities that are "in" and hot right now, are your age or younger. In some cases, getting too close to them would probably be a felony.

You know you are getting older when...
You go to enjoy getting a popsicle from the ice cream man coming down the street, wanting to relive your childhood days of seeing the ice cream man. When you walk up to the open side and look a the choices, you recognize none of them. You ask if they have big sticks, or maybe the Flintstone's push up pops, and the ice cream man has no idea what the hell you are talking about and looks at you as though you are crazy. True story-happened the other day.

ah, life.

Interesting to see how this turns out...

So...I decided to start a blog. True, I have refused to give in to Twitter, just because I really don't think people need to know what I'm doing every second of the day. But I thought it would be interesting to start a blog to track my next four months. I also think it would be cool to just share random thoughts, because as most of my friends could tell you, I am full of random info. I graduated in May with a Marketing degree-I actually did it in 4 years too, a feat that is becoming rarer and rarer. I also just finished up a job with an awesome company, who I hope I have the opportunity to work for again in the future.

So that leaves me here...graduated and unemployed.

I do plan on applying to grad school for the spring so I will be working on that; believe me when I say that studying for and taking the GMAT should count as a full time job. But in the meantime, I have decided that I will just enjoy life and see where it takes me...become a free-spirit, a wanderer. Not the non-showering, wierd, dreadlocked type of wanderer, just the kind that has the freedom to travel whenever and wherever they want. When else will I have such a free time in my life when I am young, have no obligations, relationships, or career to hold me to one spot? Probably not ever honestly. I have worked continuously since I was 16; not having a job or something to occupy my time would probably drive me insane. So, I plan on doing three main things:
1. Getting into Graduate school.
2. Training for a 5k, 10k, and eventually a half-marathon(13.1 miles for those of you that don't know).
3. Traveling as much as humanly possible, or at least as much as money will let me ;)

I already have a trip planned to Costa Rica with a friend of mine for 10 days, so I can't wait for that. I am also currently planning a few others trips as well, and starting running on monday.

Should be an interesting next 4 months. Stay tuned...
